silver plate, belt buckle old nurse with blue swastikas on it?
My mom has an antique silver plate buckle nurses. You kind of filigree design with a light blue swastika on each half. He took from his sister, who is a nurse. He was given years ago by an old matron, who said that was worn by nurses Jews. If anyone knows anything about this sort of thing, or a good online site that I would be able to find anything about this, please let me know. Thanks!
I can not find anything (on a quick search) regarding its use in Judaism, even though I know it has been used both Buddhism and Hinduism. Wikipedia is a good article on the symbol. Whether or not nurses Jews were forced to wear the Nazi symbol during the periods in Europe, I do not I know. However, if you're really determined to find the origin and provenance of the piece you can contact the Holocaust Museum in America (google it) and Imperial War Museum in London. Finally, one might naturally try one of these 'what is and what it's worth' programs on TV (like Antiques Roadshow), but I'm sure that will get the help of a curator of a museum or academic.
